Guess info about a few of the main distros would be enough, and leave configurable $KDEAPPLNKDIR $GNOMEAPPLNKDIR $OTHERAPPLNKDIR in the script, so the advanced user can also easily modify the script.
Why do most Linux users seem to think everyone uses Linux?

Actually I believe any person who can use BSD, solaris or any such OS on his/her desktop is capable of editing a few lines of a script to define where the necessary files are, as I mentioned above. What in my mind was a bit for the "newbie".
Any suggestions to define other OS so that the script will know where the files are already ?
