hi all,

just wanted to post alert that it seems upgrading to the latest redhat 8.0 XFree86 rpms break e 16.5-1 and 16.6-pre5 .. they will start, but then promptly crash with segfault.

the break appears to be somewhere in the following XFree86 rpms:
 'XFree86-4.2.1-21'
 'XFree86-100dpi-fonts-4.2.1-21'
 'XFree86-75dpi-fonts-4.2.1-21'
 'XFree86-Mesa-libGL-4.2.1-21'
 'XFree86-Mesa-libGLU-4.2.1-21'
 'XFree86-base-fonts-4.2.1-21'
 'XFree86-devel-4.2.1-21'
 'XFree86-font-utils-4.2.1-21'
 'XFree86-libs-4.2.1-21'
 'XFree86-tools-4.2.1-21'
 'XFree86-truetype-fonts-4.2.1-21'
 'XFree86-twm-4.2.1-21'
 'XFree86-xauth-4.2.1-21'
 'XFree86-xdm-4.2.1-21'
 'XFree86-xfs-4.2.1-21'
 'Xft-2.0-4'
 'Xft-devel-2.0-4'

reverting to the following rpms seem to fix the problem:

 'XFree86-4.2.0-72'
 'XFree86-100dpi-fonts-4.2.0-72'
 'XFree86-75dpi-fonts-4.2.0-72'
 'XFree86-Mesa-libGL-4.2.0-72'
 'XFree86-Mesa-libGLU-4.2.0-72'
 'XFree86-base-fonts-4.2.0-72'
 'XFree86-devel-4.2.0-72'
 'XFree86-font-utils-4.2.0-72'
 'XFree86-libs-4.2.0-72'
 'XFree86-tools-4.2.0-72'
 'XFree86-truetype-fonts-4.2.0-72'
 'XFree86-twm-4.2.0-72'
 'XFree86-xauth-4.2.0-72'
 'XFree86-xdm-4.2.0-72'
 'XFree86-xfs-4.2.0-72'
 'Xft-2.0-1'
 'Xft-devel-2.0-1'

..

hope im not reposting a known issue, but i didnt want anyone to hit this like i did ;P ..

I have two RH-8.0 systems with different graphics cards, the latest
updates as mentioned above, E16.6-pre5, and no problems.

Did you check in /var/log/XFree86.0.log that you really got the new
X-server running?

/Kim
