just wanted to post alert that it seems upgrading to the latest redhat 8.0 XFree86 rpms break e 16.5-1 and 16.6-pre5 .. they will start, but then promptly crash with segfault.

Did you check in /var/log/XFree86.0.log that you really got the new X-server running?

hmm.. honestly, i didnt do any logfile checks.. i should have,.. but yes - for sure X was running. in the next few days ill try to put the new rpms back and actually do a little work. ill post if i find anything.
