hmm - i blame autoconf. i'm beginning to get sick of working around it all the
time. trust me - next minor auto*splat* version this will get fixed and some
other fundamental issue pop up. i know there isn't much else out there - but
maybe we should explore other options?
one day i'll get so pissed off i'll just go back to Makefiles and say "if u want
it to build for you - port it and write your own god damn Makefile!"
