Is anyone looking at getting involved with Fedora package submission?

I'm pretty sure nobody else is doing this, so by all means go ahead.

Oklydok.

What are the Fedora specific issues in the spec files?

Currently there are none I'm aware of. However, it's possible that it may happen. If you know you are targeting a particular distro/rpm version then you can assume certain macros exist, which makes things tidier, and so forth. There may be some decisions (silly eg: which docs to include) which are made differently for differente distros.

There will obviously be some small changes that a spec file for a particular distro may have. The Packager should be set appropriately for example. Also the Release may get bumped when other changes are made. For example when an extra patch is included to take advantage of something only that disto offers. Due to these kind of things you may also want a packaging Changelog that is specific to the disto package.

I do have some improvements to the current spec file which are generic - I'll post a patch against CVS later today.

I believe my "fc2" RPM works on RH8.0, RH9, FC1, and FC1.9x.

Certainly looks like it should compile on any of those. I've no idea if there are issues with the binaries due to different libraries - I generally take the safe approach of ensuring that things are compiled on the target distribution/release.

However, I haven't included the .desktop, switchdesk, whatever files to
make it play nicely with gdm etc.
If you have that sorted out I'd like to include it :)

I have a session file around that will add enlightenment to the gdm session menu (though this is actually disabled in favour of switchdesk in Fedora at the moment - the "proper" functionality is enabled in RH9 IIRC). I'll post that later too.

Switchdesk is a pain in the arse because the window managers listed in it are hardcoded. There has just been some discussion on the fedora-desktop list about exactly this, where I've made some suggestions, so hopefully some improvements will come of that.

Cheers
