the reason is - there is no point. desktops are an array - sure, but what is
the fundamental difference to YOU that you cannot do all your virtual desktop
work/satisfy your needs with a grid? in e17 windows that are half off the
virtual desktop to the lft will not appear on the desktop to the right, so in
that respect they behaves as multiple desktops. you can have a different
wallpaper per virtual desktop - e16 did not allow this, only per multiple
desktop. so the limitations in e16 are not there in e17, thus i see no need for
it. there is no code/infrastructure to provide multiple desktops AND virtual in
e17 - it would need to be added. also virtual desktops are simpler than a
combination of virtual and multiple - less confusing for users.
