well, in a way it would be helpful for emotion, but I'd like to see a
native vlc emotion backend as well. The pro of having off-process
media player is that it often crashes, and we don't like the app to
crash as a whole.

well, given the current emotion-vlc implementation, you'd benefit from
getting it public ASAP, get some code review and testing and have a
better product at the end. I guess your current codebase is better,
but errors will always show :-/
