Been a while since I last poked at that. the alsa code just tries to open a regular alsa channel. the way pulse works - it asks alsa's driver to pass audio BACK to userspace for other alsa opens so pulse can mix and control - then it passes it back out the real alsa output. this is why alsa is the "lowest common denominator" for audio. > It's odd that it's the compiler doing that though.
