ok. then i think several of us should be trying the meson build then across
various systems. i have been using it on all of mine now for a while and... "it
works for me" (also tried dist and it passes the check). maybe i'll do a
once-over on the meson build files and see...

some bsd etc. checks would be nice too... for people with those systems
