I tried making the symlink as you suggested and, voila, it works. The reason I hadn't tried that in the past was I thought Enlightenment was actually looking for either a file or a symlink to libImlib.so.1, not so.11. I suspected that there is some config file somewhere that the entry for the so.11 file had been cut off on, but after seeing the exact same thing for both user accounts, I had to come to the conclusion that something else was broken.
Now I have another problem. Now that it's working, most of the menus I have under a Gnome session seem to be missing, including the one necessary to change it back to Gnome or to select a different window manager. Where in the world did they hide that stuff? It almost appears that once you select Enlightenment, they don't want you to change it to anything else. Once I get my normal user account back to normal, I think I'm going to use a test account to play with Enlightenment until I'm satisfied I can set it up the way I want it.
