I did make .xsession executable, in fact, I can run it from a terminal session. It just doesn't run when E16 starts. I was able to get xscreensaver running by editing ...e_session-XXXXXX.snapshots.0 per Bradley Reed's email.

It would be nice to be able to use .xsession though, as to edit ...e_session-XXXXX.snapshots.0, I need to logout and login without enlightenment.
