I start E as my window manager, then start the gnome stuff later.  Tell 
E to remember them and I'm good.  Down side is, E only remembers the 
setting for one of my panels, thus, I have to reset them when I restart 
X.  I leave my box up all the time, so I don't run into this issue that 
often.
