hi list,
i stumbled over http://edevelop.org/node/1434 yesterday and after
looking at the high resolution enlightenment logos i recognized that
they're perspectively 'strange' and inconsistent (i don't really dare to
say 'wrong'). take a look at the supplied images at the bottom of the
given link to see for yourself (it's not possible to see 5 or more sides
of a regular cube at once, only when the cube is extremely distorted or
you're a spider with 6 eyes...)
so my question is: is this thought to be so (some psy-effect *grin*) or
was it just a quick 2d render, because code goes first (or for some
other reason)?
i ask because i do 3d modelling/animation as a hobby and so i began to
render this thing in 3d (mainly as response to shadoi's request for a
new logo for edevelop (just to see if i can create an exact copy in 3d)
and finished it a few hours ago. it still needs some little work on the
lights when animated, but the model and surface is accurate and because
i would love to contribute to e in the only possible way i can (i'm an
artist, no c-coder) it would be quite interesting to know if this model
could be of use.
i also compared the svg with your provided rendered images and they
differ. on the rendered ones there are spaces between the outer
triangles, but not on the svg. which one is the right to use? i used the
svg as template, so my model has no spaces between (but it would be easy
to add 'em)
i also have a few ideas for cool animations, but i don't want to spend
too much energy on something that is not of use ('cause creating 3d
animations is quite time-consuming).
anyways, i'll continue to give the new 'static' edevelop.org logo a try
(with the original logo and with my 3d version) and will send both to
shadoi when i'm finished, perhaps he and/or you likes and uses one of
it. but if not, no problem either, then it was at least a nice
render-experience ;)
greets, chris
to raster: nice sky-images on your page, they're great for environmental
maps and so i took nearly all of them for my texture-lib, i hope you
don't mind me *grin*
