I tried picking the application provided icon from the menu. For a couple of
minutes it showed correctly, then reverted back to the missing icon. I found
that interesting.

 What I used to do: On the same dropdown menu select More then  then
hover over Border where you find icon preferences. Alternatively go to
Settings menu, select Settings panel, Advanced,  Search Directories,
Icons and add the /opot/google/chrome path there.
