About Elsa I think your session have problem when launched. Did you have
looked the log /var/log/elsa.log and users' log ~/.elsa_session.log.
No need to
With elsa you have 2 way to login with the value "xsessions" in
/etc/elsa.conf
 - a script are launched when user are granted
 -  the user chooses sessions based on xsession desktop files and the
command are run when granted
