You will. e17 is not e16 and e17 uses other themes.

This used to exist, and it's not very hard to implement again. For
now, feel free to not change anything at all or just use a 1x1 pixel
black gif.

You're doing it wrong. Desktop Icons are part of the file manager and
can therefore be turned off in the filemanager settings. Not hard to
find.

The default setting is: Mouse 1 (Left Mouse Button) for desktop
switching, Mouse 2 (Middle Mouse Button) for window dragging.
For now, they can't be repositioned on one desktop with the pager, but
moved between desktops with different mouse buttons.

Context menu of the window (right click on the border): Window ->
Maximize. Not hard to find.

e17 can easily list all windows, in the more than obviously named
setting "Window List Menu".

in e17 this is theme specific and generally there actually _won't_ be
mini snapshots, but representations.
e17 does generally not take screenshots of windows as e16 did, so this
even requires compositing to accomplish.

Not possible. Just move the window so the current workplaces shows the
part you want to see.

You can place the pager in any shelf at any position, or you can place
it at any place on the desktop using the "Gadgets" module.

e17 does not use groups, but you can use the "Remember" setting to set
a specified set of attributes for any window matching a set of
attributes. E.g. window names, window classes, ...
