Generally you would turn on fancy effects when you want to take a screenshot to 
show off your desktop, even if you don't use them regularly.

I have re-enabled the compositor on my work machine (Geforce 210). 
As soon as you are done with EFL, and *if* I remember/encounter the reason why 
I don't generally use it, I will post :)
