Never mind, after doing a new working E21 installation on Debian
(netinstall) and comparing both, I "stupidly" created a ~/xinitrc file
on Ubuntu (as typed in
https://www.enlightenment.org/docs/distros/debian-start#Run-time_requirements
) instead of ~/.xinitrc
