Michael I tried the mac override as suggested, actually it was one of the first things I tried. It didn't seem to work so I thought I would email this mailing list. Kerr from Enterasys also emailed me about this on Friday and he suggested the same thing as you and Douglas. After trying again Kerr could see why it wouldn't work.
I've tried it again this morning by setting up a brand new rule called Amazon Kindles, a new End-System group called Kindle-MACs and a new NAC profile called Kindles. I placed the rule at the top of the list which states that Amazon Kindles if End-System is in Kindles-MACs apply the NAC Profile of Kindles. The Kindles NAC Profile has assessment turned off and just has the accept policy of Enterprise User, Replace RADIUS attributes with accept policy turned on and Use the failsafe policy of Failsafe. The mac address of the Kindle was put into the Kindles-MACs group. What I noticed was that, once this was set up and I connected my Kindle, it would show up on the NAC as hitting the unregistered NAC Profile and not get any further. Then if I go back to the Kindles-MACs group the mac address I put in earlier is gone! I use the NetSight Suite A case with GTAC has now been opened. What management software are you using for the NAC and the Hipath? FYI. RASM is the management software for an Enterasys wireless solution. I do not know if this supports the Hipath system. This can be done on the same SSID you are currently using. The issue with the OS showing incorrectly may need to be debugged further. I would suggest that you contact the GTAC 1-800-872-8440 to start a case. Doug Hyde Escalation Support Engineer Enterasys Networks Phone: 1-978-684-1048 E-mail: [email protected] 50 Minuteman Rd. We have our wireless controllers and NAC set up so that the students with their laptops etc go to the Enterasys captive portal page and register their devices on the network. However with the Kindle there’s no web browser and it would be nice not to have to set up a separate VNS for them. Is there any way to allow the Kindles via their MAC address access onto the same student VNS that would usually require registration? I did do a test but the Kindle always showed up on the NAC as an end-system that had hit our Unregistered NAC Profile. Strangely the Kindle showed the OS as being Enterasys HiPath Wireless Access Point 3610/3620.
