so i asked gtac abt this and their response was that their switches are not
capable of displaying these types of diagnostics from the sfps. the sfp's
themselves are capable but you'd have to stick them into another switch vendor
to see the data.

Franco,
The only way that I know of to check optical power is with a light meter. We
use a Noyes Optical Meter to measure incoming light from the far end and tx
power at the SFP and then go to the other far end measure the difference.
Fluke is another source for equipment. Some telecommunications like J-Mux
(sonnet systems) will have built in device to measure the diode current and
make a relative measurement on the tx side. Hope this helps you.

Hi,

the easiest way to check status of ports/gbic is "sh port status".
With "show port counters" you can check if some errors occur on that port.

I do not know any CLI to check RX or TX Power of an GBIC - if you assume there
is an problem with your gbic, try a new one.

Hi,

Is it possible to check RX Power of SFP's on Enterasys switches (C5,B5,D2,
S4...)?
Which CLI command can I use to check the SFP status?

Regards,
Franco
