Thanks for the reply.
I just looked to see what arrived in NMS and no there's no firewall between
the two.

Am I right in thinking that since SNMP v3 informs (vs. traps) require

Yep.

- presumably they should buffer up if they can't reach the netsight server?

They are still UDP packets so the host probably tries again if there is no
ack in a certain timeperiod.
Maybe also a number of retries and timeouts are involved before the inform
is lost? I'd have to check that.
Is there some firewall involved in your setup?

I've noticed this in our event log from a while ago, before we had informs
set up correctly.
<164>Sep 4 18:57:48 10.111.0.100 Emanate[1.SNMPagent]SNMPv3 Informs queue
overflow = 1
...so there must be a queue.

Seems so ;-)

I tried this by changing the NIC's in the Netsight VMWare virtual appliance
to be in an isolated vSwitch.
I then logged in via SSH into and out of our 2 x N7's and asked a colleague
to do the same. Then I also telnetted into one of them.
When I put the two Netsight NIC's back into the correct VLAN, I expected 5
informs, but only received 3.

Did you sniff this using a packet filter, or did you just look at what
arrived in NMS?
