We had the same issue a couple of years ago, but I think we were at
different software version levels. I would have to check with my staff
person who handles our Enterasys switches, Art Ripley, for the details
but as I recall the root cause was due to incompatible port settings
between the two switches. Enterasys GTAC helped us solve this problem.

Here is one of our settings for a fiber port for an inter-switch link:

C3(su)->show port status ge.1.48
          Alias        Oper    Admin   Speed
Port (truncated) Status Status (bps) Duplex Type
--------- ------------ ------- ------- --------- ------- ------------
ge.1.48 Uplink Up Up 1.0G full Combo
RJ45/1000-lx/lhmm/PoE

C3(su)->show port advertise ge.1.48
ge.1.48      capability    advertised     remote
-------------------------------------------------
10BASE-T        no           no           no
10BASE-TFD      no           no           no
100BASE-TX      no           no           no
100BASE-TXFD    no           no           no
1000BASE-T      no           no           no
1000BASE-TFD    yes          yes          yes
pause           yes          no           no

C3(su)->show port negotiation ge.1.48
auto-negotiation is enabled on port ge.1.48

C3(su)->show port speed ge.1.48
default speed is 1000 on port ge.1.48

C3(su)->show port duplex ge.1.48
default duplex mode is full on port ge.1.48

If this is the problem you are having, you can set the far-end port
settings first. You will lose connectivity but then you set the
near-end port settings and the link will come up.
