Question #172850 on samba in Ubuntu changed:
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+question/172850

actionparsnip proposed the following answer:
Try:

sudo apt-get install samba

Then run:

smbtree

What is output? You may want to disable the Windows systems firewalls to
allow the data to travel. Also be sure you have folders shared on the
Windows systems
