By "minor updates", do you mean 43.0.1, 43.1, 43.2, et cetera, if any
such are released?

AFAIK no such updates are released after the next "major" version is
released, except in the case of the ESR. That would seem to imply that
you could get the same result by just disabling updates outright.

Not as far as I'm aware. What I would recommend instead is to install
Firefox ESR, which does get minor-release updates after the release of
new versions (for roughly a year); if I've read the discussions
correctly, Mozilla has sort-of promised that ESR 45+ will include some
mechanism for enterprises to continue to use internal addons without
signing. (Although what that mechanism will be is still far from clear.)

I use and deploy the ESR exclusively, and would recommend that
everyone else do the same, for multiple reasons; this just adds
another one. I hope to be able to use the "disable forced central
signing" mechanism in ESR for my own use; if it is not available, I
will very likely stick with ESR 38.7 until some better solution
becomes available.

(This wouldn't be the first time I've done something like that; I stuck
with Firefox 3.x until sometime around the release of Firefox 24, and
one of my computers is _still_ on Thunderbird 2.x, almost entirely due
to undesirable UI modifications.)
