I've had the same question, only 50% more complicated. I need to have access
to the whole enchilada (mail, addresses, calendar) in three places: home,
office, and PowerBook when I'm on the road. Fortunately, I've got Zip drives
in all three machines.
It's far from rocket science, but I wrote an AppleScript (my first ever!)
that copies the Microsoft User Data folder and a folder I put documents I'm
currently working on from a zip disk to the hard drive, and another one that
goes the other way. The process takes 2 minutes each way and because it's
just one click I can be packing up my physical stuff while that happens.
Compared to the elegant and powerful scripts that the mavens here have
posted, this is mere nothingness, but maybe someone will find it useful.
Here's the hard disk -> Zip version.
tell application "Finder"
activate
try
delete folder "Microsoft User Data" of disk "WorkZip"
empty trash
duplicate folder "Microsoft User Data" of folder "Documents" of
startup disk to
disk "WorkZip"
end try
try
delete folder "Current Work Files" of disk "WorkZip"
empty trash
duplicate folder "Current Work Files" of folder "Documents" of
startup disk to
disk "WorkZip"
end try
end tell
The only downside is that I have to keep pruning back my mail to keep the
whole thing under 100Mb. That's probably a good thing, actually.
