a question:

like a lot of readers here I use entourage on my PB to read email from work
and from home. I also use several different entourage accounts.

when switching between home and work I used to be able to simply switch my
location (to dial-up or airport) and POP away, but recently earthlink began
requiring me to send email using their mail server (smtp.earthlink.net)
instead of my own (mail.myserver.com).

one note: I am using earthlink via an airport base station set to use DHCP.

if I use my outgoing mail server while I am at home using earthlink and DHCP
I get an error -23016 ("Mail could not be sent using the account x - a
connection failure has occurred")

this means that when I come home each night I have to change the SMTP server
from mail.myserver.com to smtp.earthlink.com for the three mail accounts
that I use.

in addition, I also have to change the "advanced" sending mail settings for
each of three POP accounts because our SMTP server at work requires
authentication whereas earthlink does not. earthlink gives an error 5530
(mail error: the server doesn't support SMTP authentication) if
authentication is turned on.

all told switching back and forth requires about 18-20 steps :(

there has got to be a better way to switch SMTP servers for multiple
accounts on a daily basis, right? please send responses to me directly
([EMAIL PROTECTED]) and to the list as you see fit.

thank you
/jason
