Once you create a "custom" view by drag-selecting days in the mini-calendar
you are resetting the view options with your own custom ones. At this point
you are working with "custom" views until you pick a rigid view from the
menu. Therefore when you then click on a single day after drag-selecting,
you get a single day view.

This is where things break down. The View menu isn't a kind of preference. I
think of it more as a choice of "Modes". You select the "Work Week" mode in
the view menu and the calendar always displays work weeks. If you override
this mode by drag-selecting you enter a custom mode where Entourage
subsequently displays your selections (whether they be clicks or
drag-selections).
