Believe it or not, I'd never even noticed you could turn that ON! And man,
is it horribly slow to open a new message window if you do! However,
clicking on the button to open the Address Book once the window is up seems
nearly instantaneous. I guess the key would be, if you want to use it, to
open a new message, open the Address Book pane, select what you need, and
then close the Address Book pane before closing the message window. Would
that work?

Sure hope the sluggish behavior is being fixed for the next iteration.
