Uh, yes it does! The top item of the menu that pops up, the folder name with
the bullet next to it, is the name of the folder currently holding the
message. That was what I was looking for!

You might like to try downloading and using my script, "File Msgs in
Folder", from my scripts web site in the "Message Operations" folder (URL
below). It presents an alphabetic list of folders, showing the path in
reverse order (that is, if you have a top-level folder "Persons", a
sub-folder "John", and two sub-folders for John called "Work" and
"Personal", you would see in the list entries for each as follows:
John:Persons
Persons
Personal:John:Persons
Work:John:Persons
It first asks you to type a few characters of the folder name you want; it
selects the first list that matches, so typing "per" would locate you on
"Persons" in the list above.
I use this script all the time, with a shortcut key; it files one or more
messages in a folder slicker than snot on a doorknob. It is a heck of a lot
faster and more convenient that either dragging and dropping or the Move
menu.
The companion script, "Open Folder" (in the Utilities folder), presents the
same sorted list of folders and then opens the folder for you to peruse.
