You almost never want to open (run) an .exe file, as they are usually
viruses. Especially now, when many people are sending cute animated
Christmas cards - several do have viruses attached to them.
If they are compressed documents, ask the person who sent them to resend
them without auto extract/self extract (usually, the "make executable"
option in the compression program). You can use Stuffit Expander to
uncompress the files. It should have come with your Macintosh, and can
uncompress all PC compression formats.
If you absolutely must run the executable, and know for certain it is not a
virus, you can use VirtualPC or Softwindows to run the .exe.
