I do vaguely remember once upon a time I wasn't able to file attachments
of a certain kind from within Entourage, too.
Of cause, I don't remember file type nor error number. And at this time,
E'rage at my home computer doesn't display GIFs at all while my Mac
at office does ...
I'm pretty much sure, Michael is right it's a problem with file helpers
configuration, there are too much apps around fiddling with those prefs.
Starting over by backing up the Internet Preferences file followed by
trashing might help.
