But that's not really what it means.
But I don't feel like writing a longer description.

There's a couple of oddities at play; however, you'll likely have smoother
sailing if:
1) You toss Windows Media Player (if you have it)
2) You always launch IE before E'rage
3) Um...Hey MS, is that other thing officially considered a workaround?
And I'm not entirely certain that the CHK error is associated with the error
that the above workarounds work for.
CHK is more commonly associated with a bad Finder file, a bad System file,
failing RAM chip (did you recently add new RAM?), incompatible virtual
memory system (RAM Doubler?), various other hardware failures, and some
other stuff that slips my mind.
If you've a copy of a MacOS 9.1 savvy TechTool Pro (if one has been
released), I'd give it a shot.
I'd also think about doing a Clean Install of MacOS 9.1 to see if that
mitigates this and your weird monitor geometry/resolution issue. And I'd
think really hard about calling Apple...cause now you've got two things that
vaguely point towards hardware issues (although each still have possible
software explanations...thus the suggested clean install).
