Hello Folks,

Just wanted to mention that although many features of Entourage were very
nice, I've decided today (following 1.5 months of using Entourage) to revert
to OE 5 and Palm Desktop 2.6.

I felt I ought to mention my concerns (and praises) to the Entourage team as
since they may help improve the next version of Entourage.

My 3 main reasons for moving back to my original setup were:

1) I really felt the calendar in Entourage needs work in the calendar
interface. My biggest reason is the inability to indicate 15 minute time
blocks. Since my normal minimum time block is 15 minutes -- an important
feature that I couldn't make work to my satisfaction. Entourage displays a
minimum 30 minute block, which technically does (somewhat) indicate a 15
minute blue bar. However, this approach still creates a really ugly
calendar, since time blocks are staggered and not stacked as in the Palm
Desktop. In the Palm Desktop, I can indicate blocks as small as 10 minutes
(I happen to choose 15 min blocks) which work well and stack correctly. I
think offering 15 minute blocks as a minimum would greatly improve E'rage's
calendar views were it available.

I was also a little annoyed that my choice of a particular calendar view is
lost when returning to the calendar. For instance, if I want to have my
default view as 'Work Week' when I click to view mail and then back to
calendar, the view would revert to the default full week view. I don't know
if I was missing anything, but it certainly didn't seem apparent to me where
I ought to have designated this default choice.

2) PGP Integration has seemed to have broken down in Entourage. I had no
problem making PGP Freeware 6.5.2 in OE 5 and when updating to E'rage it
stopped working. Whenever I would attempt to encrypt an email the menus
would go gray and I'd have to do a command-period to exit the state. I then
upgraded to 6.58 and today to 7.03 only to find the same problem. And this
does seem to be an E'rage problem, since all other text-editing apps and OE
work fine with all three versions of PGP. I suppose I could try the
commercial version of PGP, but I think I ought not need to.

3) I had many crashes using E'rage which just weren't happening in OE and
Palm Desktop 2.6. Simple things like applying a control-click to fix a
misspelled word with the semicolon (;) character in it (sometimes I'd
mis-type this rather than a apostrophe) to checking email in the background
caused complete system crashes much too regularly. I've even tried copying
the Internet library into the MS Office 2001 'office' folder (as suggested
here) and switching to Netscape for my default browser. No dice on better
stability. I think this was the straw that broke the camel's back for me.

I must say that other than these few items I've been impressed with the work
the team has done. I'm sure I will miss many features. I particularly liked:

+ Saving of in-progress messages
+ Having the address and email contacts from my Visor in the address area
+ Having memos integrated
+ The new button design (with dual click points) was quite nice

I will keep my eye on upgrades to Entourage and hopefully some of the items
above will be addressed. If so, I'll give it a try again. Until then, it's
OE 5 and Palm Desktop for me.

I hope my concerns have been helpful...

Kind regards,

Mike
