The alleged primary benefit of Cocoa is speed of development, not speed of
execution.

Although this could, of course, change.

I'm not aware of any "greater speed of Objective C".

Nor is Cocoa a necessity to take advantage of most MacOS X technologies.
Although it's certainly a convenience.

Cocoa is (among other things) an API, an environment, a collection of
frameworks, and a collection of libraries.  It's an overarching term used to
embody a collection of technologies.  Think of it as a marketing term.

There is no universal answer to "Will my application perform
better/faster/at all under Carbon or under Cocoa?"

On that, I'll defer to Microsoft.
