Christian,
The progress window opens when E is in the background. I have opened it and
closed it (when no activity was occurring, and when it was active) to try to
"set" the state. No luck.
When E is in the foreground, it seems to stay put once closed. The "state"
isn't persistent across sessions. If I quit E, relaunch, then check mail,
the Progress Window opens again. If I close it, it will not open unless I
open it, until E is in the background and a mail check begins -- it then
opens again (it doesn't bring E to the foreground...I can just see it behind
whatever app I happen to be using...which is the behaviour that I'm trying
to stop.)
