Since FrameMaker has long been available in a unix edition, I'm wondering if
there is any chance Adobe will port it to OS X and make it slightly more
reasonable in price. Fat chance, huh?

I don't have any suggestions for getting it cheaper, except the academic
price (but you say that's not possible). Even then, though, it's expensive
to purchase and to maintain. I just upgraded to v.6 and that cost me more
than I paid for the thing in the first place (both original purchase and
upgrade were academic pricing).

And then there was that rumor (which Adobe quickly squashed, but still) that
Adobe was dropping development of FM.

If they would only roll some of FM's features into InDesign (which is *very*
intriguing for its typographic control, but not for text-rich long document
design). Ah well...
