Odd... I just ran the installer and it said that my 9.1 system had this version or newer. Was it installed with 9.1 CD version (not the one with OSX)?

It's not installed by the 9.1 CD. It's installed by the OS X CD, which also installs it in Classic (OS 9.1) when it does so.
