I am using a Macally iKey, USB keyboard. Very happy with it. I used it with
my iMac, and now I am using it with my iBook when I sit at a desk, so I can
put the keyboard on a lower level and the screen up more at eye level.
I have had a slight problem with it on the iBook (and as I recall I had a
little difficulty finding the right setup on the iMac as well). On the
iBook, about half the time I unplug the keyboard to plug in my Visor cradle
to hot synch, my iBook freezes up and have to force restart with
Cmd-Control-Power. Other times it works fine. Actually, maybe more than I
realize because I often do not notice the freeze until after I've plugged in
the cradle; I think <that> may be the culprit as often as the keyboard. To
my mind, the problem isn't specific to the keyboard; it seems endemic to all
my USB devices, including a Zip drive and an external hard drive I use for
backups. "Hot-swappable" isn't a guarantee, and I've begun to lean toward
just shutting down and restarting when I want to swap a USB device.
As for setup on the iMac, I had a situation where the keyboard was plugged
into a hub (powered). I found that frequently I would lose either the
keyboard, my Intellimouse, or both, until I switched and plugged the
keyboard directly into one of the iMac's two USB ports, with the mouse
hanging off it, and used the hub only for my Zip disk and printer.
I like the Macally iKey. It's a little quieter than the iMac keyboard was,
and I like its touch.
