Have you tried not using the proxy to receive. A mail proxy is usually required for sending mail – otherwise it would look to the firewall like a relay. I currently receive my mail (3 accounts) behind a firewall without the need for a mail proxy

I’ll try bypassing the proxy for mail receiving on Monday. There’s an option for that.
I suspect our work has one of the world’s most secure firewalls, and won’t let anything in or out other than straight http. As usual in the corporate world security is more important than functionality. Sometimes I wonder if business ever considers the cost of security as well as its benefits.
