Allen,
Unlike John, I have only 1 partition on my ti. I took delivery of my ti
with OS9.1 on it and I got it stable and syncing well. Then I installed OSX
on top of 9.1 and naturally had to remove some extensions so that the system
folder would work in both classic and as standalone 9.1. So now I have only
1 OS9 system folder on that partition which is for both the classic layer in
X and for booting into OS9, and yes the serial port monitor is in that
system folder's startup items list along with all the other necessary
extensions associated with making palm happy (PalmConnect USBSerialHAL
v1.6, PalmConnect USB v1.6, PalmConnect USBSerialShim v1.6, USB Palm
v2.6.3, and instant palm desktop because I sometimes still like to pull up
the hotsync manager that way), and for making OS9.1 and all the 9.1 apps I
use happy.
In the hotsync manager screen under the controls tab, I have hotsync
enabled, and have the "enable hotsync software at system startup" checkbox
checked; and under the serial port settings tab, it's set to local setup and
then local setup is set to "as fast as possible" and "palm connect USB"
I don't know if this makes a difference, but in the OSX network preference
screen, I have appletalk unchecked. I know that an active appletalk and the
palm serial port monitor couldn't really coexist (at least in laptops)
I also don't ask too much of the hotsync manager in each hotsync. I might do
the entourage conduit alone, or in tandem with one other conduit (eg.
filemaker, or webconfidential, etc...), and finish up with backupbuddy, but
never do all the conduits at once. I'm not sure why this matters but I've
found it helps me out. That and "try try try again" :)
Hope this helps you get sorted
