Why Does E-Rage Slow Down?

Title: Why Does E-Rage Slow Down?

Can anyone tell me why E-rage sometimes slows down to a crawl?  I referring to the sporadic times when the cursor slows down to about half the speed of my typing (and I’m not real fast).  As I type this, it’s like a slug.  I have to pause to wait for the cursor to catch up.  Very frustrating.  Re-starting always clears it up, but is there anything else that might be causing it that can be fixed?
