Just a few comments on Diane's tips, which were great:

You can actually let it install all fonts, since OS X will use any fonts
found in your "Classic" System Folder's "Fonts" folder. Oddly enough, some
"standard" fonts are not installed by X at all, and must be installed in
your Classic System Folder.

As for what extensions, etc. are required, the following are necessary for
Classic to run; all others are optional (however, Office/Entourage installs
others that are necessary, and you may have others that you need for other
applications, etc.):

 ProxyApp
 Classic Support UI
 General Controls
 Apple Guide
 File Sharing Extension
 LaserWriter
 PrintingLib
 QuickDraw 3D RAVE
 AppleShare
 Classic RAVE
Classic (root level of Classic System Folder; does not show up in
Extensions Manager)
Classic Support (root level of Classic System Folder; does not show
up in Extensions Manager)

These technically have no effect on Classic, as the Classic environment
ignores these settings.

> 3. Turn OFF virtual memory under classic.

The virtual memory setting in the "Classic" Memory control panel is actually
ignored. However, applications running in Classic will always think that
virtual memory is set to "off" no matter what it is set to. In fact, the
only setting in the Memory control panel that will have any effect on the
Classic Environment is "Disk cache."

I've actually written an article on Classic based on my talk at Macworld
last month; some of you might find it useful if you find yourself using
Classic a lot. If you'd like a copy, go to <http://www.InformINIT.com/> and
click on "Expo NYC" in the directory.
