Hi,

I installed Entourage v.X the other day, and started the long and laborious
import process of my huge mail database from Outlook Express 5 (Identities
folder is > 1GB)

After half an hour of importing, Entourage crashed (this application quit
unexpectedly). I restarted and found that most of the import had worked, all
folders were created and contacts transferred, but only about 3000 messages
were imported. I retries the import of just the messages, and three hours or
more later, found the import completed successfully. Unfortunately the
import resulted in around 3000 duplicate messages, scattered around a number
of folders.

After a lot of time wasted messing with writing scripts to weed out the
duplicates, I gave up, deleted the mail database and tried again. Again,
after half an hour the import died. On restart, I noticed that the total
number of messages was less than the first time, but the time before crash
was almost identical...

I solved my problem by using the excellent Views facility. I viewed all
imported messages in one go from all folders, selected them all, and set
them to a special category. I then reran the import, and as before
sucessfully terminated some hours later. I then used the views to see only
the Duplicate category messages, and sent them to trash in one go.

Wow those views are very powerful!

So problem solved for me, but it seems the import code has some
instabilities...

Oh, one other thing, although the import process transferred all my mail
accounts from OE, it didn't keep the reference between imported messages and
which account each one was received from. If I display the account column in
the mail list, every entry is blank

Would it be possible to correct that via an AppleScript run overnight ?

Cheers
Guy
