The people on the mailing list are not going to be able to comment on whether it worked as a news article, nor will they be able to see responses on the news group or vice versa, except by continuing to cc from the news group as I'm doing. You can't cc the newsgroup from the mailing list. It would be better to write to one or the other, I think. > > I am using the m/soft news server as my ISP doesn't yet carry this group and > the other "microsoft.public.mac.office.*" groups, and I have noticed a > "feature" which doesn't seem to have been mentioned yet (although I may be > wrong!) > > I have the view set to Unread Only, but if I mark all articles as read I > have to toggle between read and unread views to reset this again. In an earlier version of Outlook Express which did not leave messages in place as you read them, the very message you had just started reading would disappear if mail (or news, I guess) was checked by a schedule. Then you would have the devil of a time trying to find it again after first toggling Unread Off. So messages now stay in the message pane of a mail folder or news group as read, even when set to Unread Only, until you click away and back again. It works much better this way. What do you think you lose? Strictly speaking, if it weren't the case, a message would disappear from view the instant you clicked on it: how is Entourage to know how long it takes you to read it? I guess it could be made to disappear as soon as you clicked onto another message, but you'd soon find out how annoying that is if you click through messages just a bit too fast. I haven't actually ever seen a complaint about this until yours. > > Whilst on the subject of views and stuff is there a way of deleting all > messages in one go (in a mailing list set to threaded view) without having > to hit it each time until they have all gone? Select all the messages you want to delete via shift-clicking the top and bottom messages of a contiguous group, or command-click non-contiguous messages (or command-clicking to DE-select individual messages after shift-clicking a contiguous group), just as in the Finder. Then press Delete key or button just once. -- Paul Berkowitz MVP Entourage PLEASE PLEASE always state which version of Entourage you are using - 2001 or X.
