Thanks very much for your reply.  In response to your questions:
  1. I do not know what version of Exchange is on the backend, but the IT guys have always updated the servers religiously.  If it will help, I can find out.
  2. I do have LiveSync enabled
  3. I am using the default delete mode.
  4. I am downloading the full messages.

I have made the change you suggested to the Folder Synchronization dialogue to synchronize all messages and will see how that works.

One thing that I've done is to make sure Full messages are downloaded in the
schedules. To do this, edit your schedule. On the line with your IMAp
account, there will be a "Click here for account options".

In the ensuing "Folder Synchronization" dialog, you might want to make sure
all the folders are checked. I also have all my folders set to synchronize
"All Messages".
