Dan, seems like this is a way to repro the problem. My sig is:

<return>
--<space><return
Rick<return>

I create a new message, type in an address ("foo") and a subject ("foo"),
then press tab. The cursor should be sitting at the top of two blank lines,
followed by the double-dash followed by "Rick". The key here is that it's
the line just above the double-dash.

Click once on the second line to place the insertion point at the start of
the second blank line.

Type a bunch of text (20 or 30 chars, it's not important).

Change the sig.

Watch the text disappear.

It will eat all the text typed starting with the click on the line just
above the double-dash. If you had other text in the message before you
clicked on that line, you won't lose that other text.
