I have a similar annoyance sometimes. The red squiggly line will appear under a word that I know is correctly spelled, and when I Ctrl-click, I don't get a Spell-check contextual menu but the more general one with all the activated plug-ins. Re-typing the word will sometimes remove the squiggly line.
