Mindspring (now merged into Earthlink) does not allow connections to their
SMTP servers unless users are connected to the internet via the
Mindspring/Earthlink network.  That means we have to be on one of their DSL
or cable hookups, or modeming to one of their dialups.

I thought that this sort of policy was now fairly standard among big ISPs.
Or are you thinking of some other issue?
