Why don't you just set Entourage to Work Offline before you close the lid?
That's easier than turning off the schedule or quitting Entourage, the other
two solutions that come to mind. The, a few seconds after opening the lid,
set it to work online. I get this problem when I'm at work with my iBook. I
usually just let the error happen.
