Hi Allen,

I saw something strange on the Entourage newsgroup today that I'm curious
about. You replied to a couple of posts in plain text that had originally
been posted as HTML. In your replies, several characters (apostrophes,
quotation marks) in the no-longer-HTML original posts were transformed into
various odd symbols.

The funny thing is that you had just answered a post about font substitution
where you explained that, "This can happen with messages that go between
Macs and Windows machines because they use different codes for ASCII
characters above #127, such as "curly quotes" or the curly apostrophe."

In this case, there were no Windows machines involved; everyone was on a Mac
(all OS X, I think). So why did this happen?

Beth
